CAMP SESSSIONS, DATES AND TIMES
Camp runs from 9:00 am – 3:30 pm
Each Friday we will have a camp-wide Design Show and Pizza Party from 3:30 – 4:30 pm for campers and their families.
PARKING
The first day parents should park in the Riverside Parking lot and walk their
child to Olney hall Room 150. All other mornings, students may be dropped off
in front of Olney Hall on Riverside. This is the closest building to the
Riverside parking lot, watch for drop off signs. In the afternoon, parents
will need to park in the Riverside Student Parking Lot and walk to Olney Hall
room 150 to pick up students. Badges will be checked. No child will be let
out without a matching badge. This is the only lot that is authorized for
DESIGNCAMP use. DO NOT PARK IN THE FACULTY LOTS LOCATED BEHIND BALL HALL OR
NEXT TO CUMNOCK HALL.
LUNCHES
Campers will have a short break each morning, as well as a 1 hour lunch and activity period, which will be outdoors, weather permitting. Students may buy lunch in our food court or bring a lunch and snacks to camp. If they bring lunch, it should be brought in an insulated cooler bag with an ice pack. We will also give a water bottle to each camper; students will be encouraged to drink a lot of water, and they will have access to cold spring water every day. There are soda, juice and snack vending machines that campers will have access to during the day.

CAMPER DROP-OFF, PICK-UP AND SUPERVISON
It is important to understand that your child will be supervised at all times throughout the day. At no time will they be left on their own, nor will they be allowed to go anywhere on campus by themselves. Students will be with their teacher and/or teaching assistant at all times. Also, every student will wear an identification badge while on campus (except while inside their workshops). Parents will be issued several matching identification badges on the first day of camp.
- Each day, we begin camp in Olney 150. Please do not drop off your child any earlier than 8:15 am, as there will be no staff available to supervise students until then.
- At 3:30 pm all students gather again in Olney 150. You, or one of the people designated to pick up your child, must report here in person with an identification badge to show to camp staff.
- Please be sure that you have listed the names of everyone who is authorized to pick up your child on the Camper Information Form. No student will be allowed to leave camp unless escorted by an adult who has a matching identification badge. It is the responsibility of parents to give a badge to anyone who will be providing afternoon transportation for their child. In the event that someone shows up without a badge, we will check their identification against the camper information form, and/or call the designated parent or guardian, to insure that the person in question has authorization to transport your child.
- IMPORTANT: ALL STUDENTS MUST BE PICKED UP BY 3:45 pm. We are not prepared to provide extended supervision for your son/daughter. Please make every effort to arrange for your camper to be picked up on time. If your child is picked up late more than one time, you will be charged the $50 fee for Extended Day Activities.
MEDICAL ISSUES AND MEDICATION POLICY
VERY IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!
We must be made aware of all of your son/daughter's physical and/or mental health conditions that in any way could affect their safety or participation in DESIGNCAMP programs. The information that you provide on the medical forms will be kept strictly confidential, and will be shared only with those staff members who will be directly responsible for the well being of your child. Feel free to contact the camp nurse at any time during camp if you need to discuss health and safety issues related to your child.
- In order for our nurse to administer any medication to your child, either prescription or over-the-counter medications, we must have a written Medication Order and Consent Form signed by you and your child’s doctor. You will need to submit one Medication Order form for each medication to be taken (so please make copies if your child will need to take more than one medication). All medical forms must be returned to camp before any medications will be administered.
- Prescription medications must be sent in a current pharmacy-labeled containers that has the following information: child’s name, physician’s name, name and strength of medication, amount of each dose, times to be taken, prescription date and expiration date. Medications sent in anything other than the original prescription container will not be accepted. Non-prescription medications must also be in their original container.
- Medications must be brought to camp, and picked up from camp, by an adult.
- Medications will be kept in the nurse’s office and administered by the nurse, or by designated camp personnel in her absence. If written permission has been given for a child to self-administer a medication, then at the nurse’s discretion, the medication may be kept with your child.
EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENT BEHAVIOR
It is very important for your son/daughter to realize that he/she is a guest of UMass Lowell’s College of Engineering. Many of the workshops are held in our engineering laboratories. We expect that your son/daughter will act in a mature manner, and in a way that is respectful of the university environment. Most of our workshops involve the use of tools and machines that can be dangerous if not used properly. Although we will train your son / daughter in the proper and safe use of all tools and equipment, safety in the lab requires a serious attitude and mature behavior. Each workshop is taught by a Lead Teacher and a Teaching Assistant both of whom are certified classroom teachers, and both of whom have been trained in the safe and proper use of tools.
- Listen to and follow the direction of teachers and camp staff.
- Treat teachers, camp staff, and each other with respect.
- Use tools and machines in a safe and responsible manner.
- Treat all camp and university property with respect.
- Stay away from all university lab equipment that is not part of their DESIGNCAMP workshop (the teacher will indicate any areas that are off limits or any equipment that is not to be touched).
- engaging in unsafe behavior in the lab/ workshop, or in behavior that threatens the safety of other campers.
- harassing another student.
- intentionally harming or vandalizing university property (parents will be responsible for all damages).
IF YOUR SON/DAUGHTER IS EXPELLED FROM CAMP for serious behavior issues, there will be NO REFUND OF CAMP TUITION.
